Jonathan was born on March 16, 1944, in San Diego, California. Soon thereafter, the family moved to Evanston, Illinois, which remained his home throughout his childhood. Jonathan completed high school at Culver Military Academy, where he was a star athlete, receiving varsity letters in football, boxing, and wrestling. Upon graduation, Jonathan attended St. Lawrence University where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree and experienced some of the best years of his life. Jonathan was also member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity. It was at St. Lawrence, where he met the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Kathryne Greene Raclin.

Kathryne and Jonathan were married in 1967 and enjoyed a fabulous honeymoon in Sea Island, Georgia; the place that stole their hearts.

Jonathan was a commissioned officer of the United States Marine Corps and served valiantly as a First Lieutenant Commander in Vietnam. Post honorable discharge, Jonathan and Kathryne returned to Chicago, Illinois and made their home in Winnetka, Illinois. Jonathan was first an associate with White Weld & Company and went on to become one of the youngest partners of William Blair & Company. Following William Blair, Jonathan served as Executive Vice President for Capital Markets with the Chicago Corporation. Post Chicago Corporation, Jonathan transitioned into private wealth management with Barrington Research and Associates.

During his years in Chicago, Jonathan remained passionate about history and elected to go back to school and proudly earned his master’s degree in history from Northwestern University.

Chicago was Jonathan and Kathryne’s home for over 30 years, and their memories and friendships were unmatched but after decades of traveling to and enjoying Sea Island, Georgia, they decided to make it their permanent home. Friendships, community, and many gifts followed them.

Forever a social being, Jonathan was a member of many fine organizations including serving as a President of The Bond Club of Chicago and The Attic Club of Chicago. Jonathan was also a member of The University Club of Chicago, The Chicago Club, Exmoor Country Club and eventually Ocean Forest Golf Club. He also believed in giving back to his community and served as a director of Palliative Care of North Shore, director of the St. Simons Land Trust and President of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society. Jonathan also served as a director of Public Broadcasting Service in Washington, D.C.

Jonathan was most proud of his family, which included his daughters Stacey Raclin Linn (Christopher) and Kelly Raclin Miller (Jeffrey) as well as his three grandsons Jonathan (21), Robert (11), and Shepard (11). He was preceded in death by his mother, Jean and father, Robert. He is survived by his wife Kathryne, daughters, sons-in-law, grandsons, and his siblings Nannette Raclin, Jean Oddy (Robert) and Grier Raclin. His family was extensive including nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

He was our rock, and we will miss him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Jonathan’s name be made to one of these organizations: Hospice of Golden Isles, Coastal Georgia Historical Society, and Glynn County Fire and Rescue.
